#MeToo in Surgery: Narratives by Women Surgeons

The third issue of VOICES features stories from women surgeons who have experienced gender discrimination and harassment in the workplace. The narratives and accompanying commentaries expose themes of sexism, sexual assault, respect, safety, and equal opportunity in the operating room and beyond.

"The symposium sheds light on a small sample of a large-scale problem. The narratives are disturbing and represent a more pervasive experience than can be quantified due to fear and retaliation. They memorialize the unique challenges women surgeons face in the workplace that go largely unnoticed and unaccounted for in the healthcare and ethics community."

Pringl Miller, MD, FACS, General Surgeon and VOICES symposium editor.
