Receiving Clinical Ethics Consultation Services

Receiving Clinical Ethics Consultation Services

Clinical ethics consultation (CEC) services may be requested when medical decisions involve conflicts between decision-makers, conflicting ethical values, or inadequate communication about matters such as a patient’s prognosis. This issue of VOICES includes stories from people who have participated in CEC services as healthcare providers, family members, or patient advocates.

"For clinical ethicists to be effective at their work, they need to be aware of the impact of their work on individuals seeking care and those providing care. The narratives provide a compelling reason to increase access and awareness amongst patients and families about the consultation service."
