This special double issue of VOICES features personal stories from researchers who conducted, and IRB professionals who reviewed, research on COVID-19. The narratives and accompanying commentaries offer important insights into the ethical, oversight, and regulatory barriers of doing COVID-related research during the pandemic. They highlight the generosity of research professionals during the pandemic, and point to a need to evaluate how we review and conduct research during pandemics.
